Summary:
MASTERS: See up-to-date league standings here.
Celtic South easily defeated Suffield in a make-up on Thursday, then traveled
to Somers on Sunday for the “Celtic derby” against Celtic North, needing three
points to clinch the league title. The
South put it a great performance to go up 2-0 at half-time, courtesy of goals from Billy Murphy, and
defended well in the second half to take the title. The season is complete for both teams, with
the South having an insurmountable lead over Falcon Polonia, who has two
make-up games left. The North will
likely finish third.
It is the second title
in a row for the South, having won the “mini-league” title in the spring of
2008. Overall, it’s the fourth title in
a row for a Celtic Masters team, with the Club having won the inaugural SNEASL
Masters league in 2006, and also in 2007 (fielding one team as “Glastonbury Celtic”).
O-30: Drew 3-3 at home
versus lowly Colchester. With one regular season match left, Celtic is
fifth-place and well-positioned for a top six playoff finish.
CSL: Lost 3-1 away at regular season champions Danbury United to finish the season 10th
in the 12-team CSL. The re-launch of the
CSL Celts this season bodes well for the future of the Club.
